Before the internet, before algorithms — there were the clubs. New Order, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Joy Division. Synthesizers and drum machines cutting through cigarette smoke. The sound that built the underground and never left it.

Slower. Colder. More deliberate. Dark wave took the synth and stripped it down to something haunting. Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox. The part of the night when the lights go lower and the music gets heavier.

Covenant, VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk and Wolfsheim defined an era of driving synthesizers, hypnotic beats and unforgettable melodies. Music that was dark yet euphoric, cold yet deeply emotional.
